Plutino's Matt Leyes photo: Steve Alkok
Less than two years ago, Toronto's fashion industry was awash under a steady tide of rumours that Plutino Group was opening a model's division.
It made sense at the time. Cathy Ledrew – after years at the helm of Ford Models – was firmly entrenched as Plutino's Managing Director, and Richard Campbell had just signed on after eight years guiding the women's board at Elmer Olsen Models. Two other staff, Amanda Muñoz and Lyndon Lee, had also worked in modelling agencies in the not-so-distant past. It seemed a natural.
Nosey type that I am, I emailed to ask if there was any truth to the rumours and got an invitation up to Lansdowne Avenue to set the record straight. You can read Plutino's buzz-quasher here.
Two months later, Ledrew was back in charge at Ford, and no one spoke of Plutino's model division again.
Monday morning, Cathy Ledrew was back at Plutino, and this time there is very definitely a model's division coming with her. Allison McGillivray, who was instrumental in building the women's division since joining Ford in April of 2010, joins Ledrew at Unit 37D. And with that pair comes a formidable opening day roster, including Leigh Hoby, Amber Wignall, Matt Leyes, Tamara McDonald and Stephanie Christian.
"I am incredibly excited to be working again with the Plutino Team and expanding their already versatile talent roster to include models," Ledrew tells Modelresource. "It's the best of both worlds."
